Cash – you need lots and lots – you don’t- The amount of money that you put down does not reflect how innovative you are neither does it indicate whether a business will run successfully.
The only potential investor is a venture capitalist- not so – less than 15% of start ups are given capital from venture capitalists.
Save the cash and pay off your overdraft before starting a business- not true – over 15% of new businesses were set up from bank loans.  The hard part is persuading the bank of the feasibility of your plan.
What you love is what you will succeed in – Not necessarily – many entrepreneurs have been surprised about the industry that they have chosen.  Starting a business and running a business is about a process.  Even an industry you love may not provide the business results you are looking for.

Know your field

Whatever your area of expertise, you will need to know more.  When you are planning a new business venture create a network around you of people who know your field inside out. Pick their brains; your contacts will always be able to tell you something new. Often entrepreneurs have branched out on their own after working within a particular business segment for several years.  It is essential to know your audience and potential customers.
Love your field
If it’s music then work in music, if its cosmetics then work in cosmetics.
Remember you have to love the industry you are creating your business around, as an entrepreneur your field will become your world.
Be realistic and smart
